When God had made the earth and sky
the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
the fish, the birds and bees.

And when at last He’d finished
not one was quite the same.
He said, “I’ll walk this world of mine
and give each one a name.”

And so He traveled far and wide
and everywhere He went,
a little creature followed Him
until it’s strength was spent.

When all were named upon the earth
and in the sky and sea,
the little creature said, “Dear Lord,
there’s not one left for me.”

Kindly the Father said to him,
“I’ve left you to the end.
I’ve turned my own name back to front
and called you dog, My friend.”

He is your friend, your partner, your
defender, your dog. You are his life, his
love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful
and true, to the last beat of his heart. You
owe it to him to be worthy of such
devotion.

I have found that when you are deeply
troubled, there are things you get from
the silent devoted companionship of a
dog that you can get from no other
source.

Doris Day
He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He
is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a thousand times over that I am
his reason for being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my
smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him
sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.)

When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I
am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags.
Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself.

He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace.
He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant.

His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my
fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me... whenever... wherever — in case
I need him. And I expect I will — as I always have. He is just my dog.

Gene Hill

I talk to him when I'm lonesome like;
And I'm sure he understands.

When he looks at me so attentively,
And gently licks my hands;

Then he rubs his nose on my tailored
clothes,
But I never say naught thereat.
For the good Lord knows I can buy more
clothes,
But never a friend like that.

Just this side of heaven is a place called
Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially
close to someone here, that pet goes to
Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our
special friends so they can run and play
together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and
our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are
restored to health and vigor; those who were
hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of
days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for
one small thing; they each miss someone very
special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day
comes when one suddenly stops and looks into
the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His
eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run
from the group, flying over the green grass, his
legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your
special friend finally meet, you cling together in
joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The
happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands
again caress the beloved head, and you look
once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long
gone from your life but never absent from your
heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
